So............ I understand the first step to apply for residency is getting your Padron. Can anyone recommend a gastor or similar in Moraira who can help with that please?

We have everything we need other than a utility bill in my name, as all the bills are in my husbands name which is what we were told was the usual thing in Spain. Anybody have any help on that point too?

Thanks

You can only get entered onto the Padron once you have a rental contract or deeds to a property. The padron is a register of permanent residents in that area.

The padron has nothing to do with getting residency!!

To gain residency you will need to prove to the authorities that you have full healthcare cover for yourself and all dependants and enough income to prove to the authorities that you will not become a burden on the state. You will need to get an NIE number.

Your town hall say that they want the following for padrón:

Copies NIE and passport

Nota simple, escritura or long-term rental contract; or water, electricity or IBI bill in your name.

Don't bother that you're not both named on the document you provide. If you want to play safe, then take your marriage certificate, although I've never heard of this being required. They'll probably take a look at your husband and think he looks downtrodden and browbeaten, so she must be his wife!

Don't waste your money on a gestor for something as simple as a padrón. Just go along, hand over the papers, and say 'Queremos solicitar de alta en el padrón municipal de habitantes'

To the OP....

For you to get the information you require, do you specifically want information regarding the Padron?

Or about something else?

Thanks Steve I appreciate you taking the time to respond. We do already own our property in Moraira and are yet unsure whether to apply for residency - just exploring a number of options at the moment

Thank you Jim as always great advice and a laugh (from my husband I may add) in the mix too! I can just about get by on my Spanish so as long as I remember/practice those legal words I think I should just about be OK
