Hi

We have been holidaymaking visitors to El Portet for quite a number of years but only once came late in the year - one November several years ago when it rained every single day!

We are now members of an international  house and pet sitting website and will be in El Portet/Moraira looking after someone's home and pets for two weeks starting just after Christmas. We really have no idea what to pack in terms of warmer clothing vs lighter clothing.

Can anyone advise us as to the most likely weather pattern over a period of 2 weeks end of December and into January?

Secondly, which is the best car hire website to get a car from?  A full/full arrangement is what we're after.

Thanks

Bring wool socks as the floors are cold. Actually wool anything is good.

Be sure to bring a sheep skin coat, thermal underwear, fleece lined boots, and a balaclava. Only joking, a couple of cardies and some kind of anorak should be enough.

For car hire try Holiday Autos (holidayautos.co.uk) they usually offer pretty good deals and it's always very cheap in the winter. Better to take out an annual insurance policy for the excess rather than pay the daily rate offered by the car hire companies which is usually pretty steep.

Thanks.  So basically I could have saved the cost of the flight, stayed at home in the UK weather and just opened my wardrobe!

Pete is absolutely spot on.  If the house is not centrally heated, it will feel very cold as the temperature drops considerably at night.  Our place is in Moraira and we always take lots of layers if we are going over in the winter and you definitely need something warm on your feet.  Having said all that, during the day outside, it can be beautifully sunny and even warm in sheltered spots.  You will certainly be able to sit outside for a coffee or lunch if you find a sunny spot.

For car hire, you might want to try Victoria Cars (have used them a lot over the years) or Mr Car, who have an office in Moraira, although I have not used them personally.
