Without a working knowledge of Spanish, you will find it difficult. The Spanish health system would not employ you without this. There are several private nursing homes and care agencies where you may be able to get work without Spanish if they cater mainly to foreign residents. However, I believe that many of the agencies do not ‘employ’ people as such, due to the expensive social security and tax requirements. In effect, you may have to register as ‘autonomo’, self-employed, which will immediately bring you into the Spanish social security and tax system. The same situation would apply to your partner. There are British building firms and associated services here, but the same situation re ‘autonomo’ will apply.
