Hello all

We have all year use of a house in Oliva

We have decided to visit this New Year for celebrating Spain style !

Can anyone give me tips and advice for dates to travel - we will have to be in the UK christmas day but was planning to arrive anytime after 27th  - staying a week

Can anyone give us tips or public places to be at New Year’s Eve ?
any advice including booking a particular venue for dinner would be really appreciated. Thanks Mark (East London/Essex)

If you come on the 27th and stay a week you will miss the big Spanish celebrations which are on Jan 6th, the Three Kings. This is their big holiday where they celebrate Christmas and New Year in one go with huge parades and parties all over the place. The large towns have a massive street parade where the Kings travel through the town throwing sweets to the children and every small town will have a parade as well.

Of course, New Year's Eve is also celebrated  but it would be a shame to miss the biggie of the year.

Hello

In my experience locally, New Years Eve is about fireworks in the  nearest church square and everyone eating special NYE  grapes in time with the clock striking 12 (spanish tradition) All took about 15mins and everyone wandered away home. If you get a restaurant recommendation, book quicky as they fill up very quickly (some are fully booked in some towns already)

As you've been advised by Marcliff Spanish Xmas  celebrations begin   on the evening of 5th Jan & into 3 Kings Day on the 6th which is a public holiday.

Cheers

Hi Marcliff

Thank yo so much for your advice. We have now changed our dates and will be coming between 3rd and 8th of January to experience the celebrations

Is there any advice you might be able to give us - what NOT to miss locally. Having a car we will also be spending a couple of days with friends visiting Valencia and probably Altea.

Should we be reserving a restaurant for the afternoon/evening of the 6th ? If so, do you (or anyone reading this) have any recommendations, aside from El Lloc (I think this is the one which has the robot waiter) and Almeda in the Passeig de Luis Vives

Sorry for asking so many questions but I really have only spent occasional weeks in the summer and Autumn here and I am now determined to start experiencing more of what Oliva and surrounds can offer

Thanks

Mark
