Can anyone recommend: Water deposit leak

We have a water deposit in pumphouse we are situated on the camp and have a leak which is showing in the wall. Have been given some advice as to how to fix, has anyone had the same problem and how to fix it, we have had some say empty it dry it out and paint with aquastop potable paint, another advice to empty it and reline it scrape all the old paint off etc
Any good advice from experience please.
