Hi SellWell,

I can't help with suppliers in your area, but in terms of the type of product you use, it should not be marble because, unlike granite, it isn't heat resistant and scratches too easily if you catch it with a knife.

Granite is a good option and probably the most popular here, although Italian granite is better quality than Spanish.

We opted for composite which, although the most expensive option, is very durable and gives greater flexibility for design.  For example, I wanted a deep front edge - the only way to achieve that in granite was to have 2 slabs on top of each other, which meant there was a join along the front edge.  In composite, this could be achieved seamlessly.

We also had composite in the UK and were delighted with it - very durable and stain-proof.

Kind regards,

Kim

There are lots of stonemasons yards around. They will all offer granite/ marble but this is ill advised as Kimmy says/ various forms of synthetic most of which are some combination of acrylics and stone. The latter may well be more expensive than natural, although one of the biggest manufacturers is situated in Alicante ( trade only). I will disagree slightly with Kimmy in that my synthetic worktops do retain certain stains, although these are not permanent but do require some fiddling to remove. I also had fully integrated sinks fitted into the worktops.

Many of the workshops will be on trading estates on the outskirts of town.
