You dont need to have one in hand to put in an offer…..when you find a place to purchase your solicitor will get you an NIE number as part of the process

You can get one from your local consulate or at the extranjeria (part of National Police Station).

Thank you for the suggestion, I’ve looked into obtaining via local consulate, but the form is in Spanish so I am unable to complete it.  Might be a silly question, but I’ll still ask - do you know if there is a form available in English?

Thank you in advance.

If you install Google translate onto your phone you can translate forms using the camera function within the app.

Here’s an English version but you must fill in the Spanish version.

Hope you don’t mind if I ask another question.  I’ve been speaking to an estate agent re a property I like and was  told I need to have an NIE. I was advised by a solicitor that I can set it up myself, which I’m happy to do.  My question is, what do I use as proof of purchasing a non residential property to accompany the application?

Many extranjeria don't ask for proof. Take your tax documents from UK stating/showing that you are still in employment there and thus showing this is just a holiday home purchase.

There is literally no point in doing this yourself.

As has already been pointed out, you'll need to appoint a Spanish lawyer to complete any purchase anyway & they will do it as part of the process.

Honest, genuine advice; Don't waste your time trying to do it yourself. The negatives far outweigh any possible benefits.
