Hi everyone

My name is Paul and i am considering purchasing a town house in Spain with Santa Pola being one of the areas i am considering mainly due to its locality to Mercia and Alicante airports which are easily accessible from where i live in South Yorkshire.

Does Santa Pola have a lively ex pat community and if not are there any ex pat areas which i also need to consider in my search for the ideal property.

My plan is to look at properties with a view to purchasing later this year or early next unless something comes up earlier which is too good to turn down. We would initially use the property as holiday home for a couple of years until myself and my wife make the move out there permanently.

Any help, suggestions or recommendations of properties, area etc would be greatly received and appreciated.

Thank you

Paul

While not from Santa Pola we have been there many times and like the town down around Playa Lisa, however, it is a very Spanish community with Spanish bars cafes and restaurants, not a Brit tourist destination and would be very quiet out of season with only the local Spanish residents, very few Expats and lots of empty properties.

As said, Santa Pola is very Spanish. There are a few Brits in town but quite low in numbers. You’ll find more French than Brits.  It’s very much a working town but is also very much a popular vacation spot   Lots of people from other Spanish areas come for summer, French come and spend 6 months..etc. so yes, come midwinter, the town is very much quieter and there are a lot of empty apartments..

If you want more of an expat feel, look at Gran Alacant ...it’s just up the road.

As you are asking for an ex pat community you could consider the areas of Playa Flamenca and La Florida, these are not of typical Spain feeling but they are app 15 drive from Torrevieja which is a working Spanish town with bars/restaurants and beaches.

These areas are all year round and not seasonal, they have the added advantage of being roughly equidistant between Alicante and Murcia airports.

I have a holiday home in this area, also from S.Yorks, good luck. Ken.

My partner and I moved from Scotland to Benimar II in Feb last year and absolutely love it. Before lockdown we could walk to Benijófar, Quesada and Rojales, lots of bars, restaurants and local supermarkets both ex pat and Spanish. We are within easy driving distances to Alicante and Murcia airports but mainly use Alicante as there is a greater choice of flights. We can drive to the beaches at Guadamar in 10/15 minutes and same for Torrevieja. The property prices are that bit cheaper as we are away from the coast and there is a very varied price range and style of houses with not just British community but many Dutch and Germans too.

Good luck in your search.

Rob..

La Marina San Fulgencio is 10km drive from Santa Pola, and 99% expat community. Quite a piece of Liverpool outskirts, but with lots of sunshine.
