My Jack lost his wife and his dog this year and he is 85 and now he decided to go and live with his son in Australia.   Unfortunately he will abandon his 2 cats....who will starve probably.

Can anyone suggest what to do please.   It breaks my heart to see the cats abandoned.   I cant look after them as i travel constantly and all neighbours are seldom here.

Please kindly advise.  Thank you.

Bereavement or not abandoning pets is unconscionable, shame on him.

Getting aged parents into OZ to live is a pretty high hurdle today so I hope  he's fully researched such a plan,

There are various rescue organisations around which would probably be the best solution. They appear to be mainly run by Brits, but would suggest you research in your area as I am not familiar with your area; there are animal shelters run by them and I believe they will take in abandoned animals; personally I think it is a disgraceful ways to behave.

I know my heart is broken    am very very sad.   The problem i cant catch them they only come to eat

as i feed them when here in Spain and when i am not here Jack feeds them as he is permanent here

only until 10 October now.   The cats are shy and they run when approaching them   Its like catch 22.

Of course i will try my best to save them.  Thank you all

If you consult one of the many free newspapers, you will certainly find details of dog and cat rescue organisations such as Spama Gandia,  which will be willing to help. Obviously, there should be no question of 'abandonment' which would be unacceptable and illegal.  As regards  relocation to Australia on a permanent basis,  I am very doubtful that it is easy to achieve. I have a number of relatively affluent  friends with  close family in Australia who have been refused as they could not satisfy the high bar for guaranteeing that one will never be a financial burden on the Commonwealth of Australia.  Working family tend not to be counted as there is always the possibility that they may lose their sources of income and be unable to support their elderly relative. It is a very sad situation and I feel very sorry for him, especially at his age, but it does all need very careful consideration. I would suggest going on an extended visit there ( I think you are allowed up to six months)  and weighing up all the options before taking irrevocable steps.
