hi, on our next trip to Torrevieja we are flying into Barcelona, for a few days sightseeing first , then spending a few weeks in Punta prima, before flying back to the UK from Alicante. We are Considering either  flying with Vueling from barcelona to Alicante in 50 mins   , or getting the train. The train seems very reasonable priced, and 6 pounds more for first class, while it  may be scenic and relaxing, it takes 5 hours approx (10.00 departure). The C6 bus takes us straight from the train station to the airport, to collect the car, so  I do not think the transfer will be an issue. I was just wondering if anyone else has used  the train, and their thoughts if it is worth taking the more relaxing route, and do you see much from the train. it only seems to stop twice. Thoughts welcome.

We´ve only taken the train from Alicante to Madrid and it was very relaxing and punctual. You also get the chance to bring a picnic with unlimited fluids. The line from Barcelona hugs the coast for a good part of the journey so scenery will be more varied than the unending fields of olives and vines over the plains so there will be the chance to get a glimpse of other areas you might like to visit in the future.
If you add in the check-in times for flying and more scope for delays, I would go by train.

The train is great - we loved the journey - quite a scenic route and comfortable too.  Much better and cheaper than train journeys in the UK that's for sure.

Made the journey from Barcelona to Alicante a few years ago. We went first class simply because standard tickets had sold out. There was a film shown on small scenes above the seats. Very clean. We saw some good scenery along the way too.

Our car hire company brought the car to the railway station for us. (Edirentacar.com)

Help. I always travel on the train. You can go direct to Alicante, which is a long journey and stops frequently, or via Madrid, which is faster but more expensive.

Both are good, with bar and seat snacks. They have Spanish movies and radio on with free headphones if you want to listen/watch.

Once you're at Alicante just be sure of transport onwards.

Hi, around 22 euros. Check out trainline Europe as it varies from day to day and train times.
