Hi my father has returned to UK due to I’ll health and we need to de register his Spanish vehicle which is at his Spanish property we need to de register it so we can terminate the insurance policy does anyone have any idea where we start and if it can be done from the UK?

We have spoken to the Insurance company and they are happy to terminate the policy once the car has been de registered

Hi Marie10,

Unless I'm missing something, I think the insurance company are having a laugh at your expense.  Your father is perfectly entitled to cancel his insurance - if he hadn't been returning to the UK, he may simply have wanted to insure with a different company.  It is unwise, of course, to leave the car uninsured, but for the current insurers to suggest you need to de-register it before they can cancel the policy is nonsense and seems to me to be a way of continuing to charge you.

The link in this article from Citizens' Advice Spain should be helpful:

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Marie10,

Did you read the link I provided:

https://sede.dgt.gob.es/es/vehiculos/altas-bajas-y-rehabilitacion-de-vehiculos/index.shtml#

If the DGT comes up in Spanish, you can change it to English in the drop down box at the top right hand side of the page.

Kind regards,

Kim
