I would not buy a car privately in Spain (and I am fluent in Spanish), or any other country for that matter. 

FWEurocars at the roundabout behind the airport on the Altet to Torrellano road are excellent and speak english.

Look for Charlie Bunn, he is based in San miguel de la salines. He has cheap runabout cars. Nice guy very helpful 

I would not buy from a dealer, I did 2 years ago, the first small problem was fixed by the dealer, For the second bigger problem the dealer started to not answer my mails or tel calls. Later he told me on the phone that the guarantee was not valid because the car had too many Kms. The dealer was a sporting car dealer in Alicante. I spoke to a lawyer about it and his answer was that it would in all probability cost me more to take him to to court with the risk of not having the car for many months. The first repair meant I did not have the car for 10 days. Because in the Guarantee it says used parts can be used so they had to find the cheapest around. Also I am in Torrevieja and he is in Alicante. They said that the car had been checked over, however the oil was disgusting along with the filter. Air filter and pollen filter likewise. On the site of the company people said that the guy spoke excellent English, but not with me, only Spanish. I am an old keen Mechanic and changed The A/C compressor (S/H) for less than 50E on a Diesel S-Type, took me 2 days. I hate car dealers and main dealer servicing in particular and have some real horror stories from major UK and Spanish/Italian main dealers of luxury cars.

Whatever, good luck with whatever and however you buy. Just remember to dis the battery if you are leaving it for more than a week or so.
