I am 27 yrs old my partner is 31 yrs old and our little boy is 5 yrs old. Our son has special needs and we have been told there is very good schools in the area who would be able to accommodate our child. Does anyone have any advice on which area would be better for our age group etc. we would somewhere with a really nice, friendly community.thank you in advance 🙂

Hi.  You say you live in the Uk but it is the passport you hold that will determine under what terms you can move to Spain.  Do either of you hold (or could obtain) and EU passport?  If so, the move is fairy straightforward and you would both be entitled to work.  Or do you both hold UK passports only?  In which case it is much harder and you would need the relevant visa.

If you do not hold EU/EEA Passports you will need a visa to live permanently in Spain. Can you clarify this please?

Hello Georgiajade,

What people are saying is that residents of the U.K. since Brexit can no longer come to live in Spain unless they can jump through certain financial hoops!  It doesn’t  matter if you already own a property in Spain however, if you have or are eligible to get an EU passport eg Irish, then there will be less hoops to jump through.   I’m led to believe that if you manage to get residency and need to work, you’ll be required to pay to be self employed and part of this money goes towards your state pension when the time comes around. I imagine you’re dreaming of a better life for yourself and your family which is understandable. I’m also led to believe that getting work is not easy. Better chance if you speak Spanish and possibly another language. I hope you manage to gain residency and do achieve your dream. Good luck.

Other very knowledgeable people will hopefully reply and give you the answers you need.

A couple of websites below that may give you some information.

Citizens Advice Bureau Spain for bureaucratic stuff, and

N332 for anything to do with driving in Spain.   This site is for English speaking people and is run in conjunction with officers of the Guardia Civil.   It has an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code on it.
