We are currently renting in almeria but thinking of moving up to Alicante area, we have been told that the kids learning a language could be a problem as the language keeps changing due to whoever is governing the area, is there any truth in this or is it just the usual Facebook twoddle?

Hi Andycraig,

It's true - the regional government of Comunidad Valenciana added the mandatory teaching of Valenciano (in addition to Castilian Spanish) to the school curriculum a couple of years ago.  It's caused uproar - even among Spanish parents - who see no value in diverting teaching time to a language that can't be used in most of Spain, let alone internationally.

Kind regards,

Kim
