I hear all about the S1 form but one thing I can not see anywhere on Gove or nhs sites is. ....... Can I move to Spain with health insurance and apply for the S1 from Spain when I am old enough to get my uk pension?  Or do I need to stay in the UK till I.m 67 to get it?

Come he'll or high water I.m gonna get this figured out!   Hoping I won't have to pay insurance forever and the convo especial a mystery to me.

Hello Jack

When I moved here I had private health insurance for 3years.  When I was eligible & notified about my pension I also applied for the S1 form. At that time Torrevieja didn't have an INSS office (they do now) so I had to register my S1 in Orihuela  which meant  I was then able to register for a Dr  at a clinic in La Mata

Cheers

I became 66 and eligible for UK state pension in May after living here for three years. I did my pension application by mail in February or March, and they wrote to me in April telling me how much I was going to get, etc. I found that the S1 form came automatically to me around May, I didn't need to ask for it, it was just sent as a result of applying for the pension. There is an address to contact if the form doesn't come automatically, Google it.

Hi Jack,

Yes you can still apply for your S1 at retirement age and also get your pension, no problem.

You will need to submit your S1 papers and other documents to the local INSS office who will then give you more paperwork to take to the local clinic. They will issue you with a SIP card and assign you to a doctor.

The Convenio especial is a way to get Spanish healthcare for a fixed monthly payment.  You get full state healthcare. You cannot get the Convenio especial until you have been a fully legal resident here for a full year.
