I have been seriously considering buying a property in Torrevieja ( moving from the UK). I understand that I will probably pay at least  40% of prescription costs there; but 40% of what? Is there any way/ source to access detailed figures for particular medications? As both my partner and me are on regular prescribed medications in England, this could well be a deal breaker if costs are prohibitive.

Thank you

Thanks for the reply. It's just, as I have said, the costs may be considerable for a fair number of different medications we need every month; the costs in England being presently less than £12 per month through  the prescription monthly pre-payment scheme. I have stated that we hope to settle in the Torrevieja area. I am just counting on someone being able to advise as to a source for at least broadly approximate figures, allowing for different localities.

Thanks again.

Prescription medications are price-controlled, even if you buy them without a prescription.

I've just checked three of my meds on the following website, and the prices it returns are the same as on my prescription:

A couple of after-thoughts.

Prices don't vary between localities.

I assume from your original question that you're not yet in receipt of the state pension. However, if you're near to that, be aware that pensioners only pay 10%. If, on a pensioner's tax return, the taxable income is less than €18,000, then in the Valencian Community, prescriptions are free.

Regarding the cost of medication in Spain ( Torrevieja) I recently had to buy blood pressure tablets, 10 mg plus 5mg, cost !!! Just under 10euro . I also had a problem with my ear, went to the clinic " with my European health card) and the prescription drops cost under 2euro. Don't live here but visit approx 4/5 times a year for month at a time xxxx love it !!!
