Before we moved to Spain three years ago, my partner and I had a day out in London. We went to the Spanish consulate in Chelsea to apply. We filled in and printed off an application form from the internet. It was pretty painless, a half hour wait then a quick interview with an English speaking Spanish lady who filled our details in on computer. Down the corridor to the cashier to pay about £12 each and we were done and dusted within an hour. The documents came by email two weeks later.

I don't know what's changed with Brexit and covid, but if you can still go there, go early to avoid queue. Check out their website.

Assuming its just the Spanish NIE you require we got ours from the Spanish consulate in Edinburgh, it was a painless and quick but that was pre virus times, if your in England you must use the London or Manchester consulate.

Just google Spanish consulate for the contact details.

Hi, Just your passports required and the completed application document for each person, the doc can be downloaded from the consulate web site,

Have attached a link below to Edinburgh consul web page we used, it says its done via police but basically the consulate forwards the application for you, in our case they e mailed the NIEs to us.
