Just been told that my bank(Bankia) are to charge me 14€ per month for bank charges. This on top of 28€ annual sevice charge! Unless I deposit my salary monthly into the account & 1 of 3 other conditions!

I only have 2 monthly direct debits going out(electric & water) & 1 x quarterly going  out for comm. fees.

Does anyone  else pay this with other banks?

In UK, it is common practice for banks to encourage to switch banks by offering free transfers of all direct debits etc, is this the case in Spain?

Cannot be right paying over 190€ for bank charges😡

It's always been a source of bewilderment to me why is it that when somebody doesn't like or agree with how something works in Spain they almost always fall back to drawing comparisons on how it worked in the UK?

Hi, I have written many replies on this subject to changing our non resident(obviously ok for residents too) bank account with Sabadell last March due to their extortionate fees for non residents. I changed after researching every bank possible(Uk and Spanish) to Cajamar bank and happily paid no fees since March. If you go their website and review in english, they have no stipulations or rules. Account is "weferrent", its online but its free unless you make a face to face transaction in branch when a 7€fee for that month only(covers that month) then using it is free.(no charge for opening in branch). I have never been in my Uk bank for over 10years. You can deposit cash via atm and they switched our direct debits but you need to leave old account open for at least a month till new bank takeover. You can inform your direct debit companies yourself for quickness instead.(I checked all my companies myself after opening acct to be sure).

I cant recommend enough how highly I think of this bank, no attempt to sell insurance, no rules(didnt want to put large amounts of money every month just to get free banking) especially as non residents, I need my money at home! Only slight drawback, perhaps no english speakers in branch, certainly not in ours(inland Villena) but we managed with our "poco espanol" and google translate. App is also now in english (wasnt last March). Do need a spanish mobile no.

Please change, you wont regret it

Regards

Pauline.
