Hi All

I’ve had an internet company out today to fit fibre broadband but they’ve had problems pulling through the cable due to some sort of blockage/route in the conduit. Anybody used mobile internet providers to give WiFi around the Villamartin area ? We have community WiFi but the signal isn’t the best.

Cheers and all the best

Jim

We had PNTV services for a while, but the speed was diabolical on many occasions. The engineer they sent told us it was to do with the angle of a crane a couple of kilometers away. when it was in a certain direction he claimed it interfered with out service. Gave up on them in the end and happy with TV Horadada now.

Your service is going to depend on where you are located in Villamartin, different parts will have different results, depending on where you are and where the providers equipment is located. I’d persevere with the fibre and get the to sort it out.

If you do want to go down the WiFi route, some companies will check the signal before installing.

Hi Jim,

We have fibre optic with Avatel (formerly TV Horadada).  Their installation guys were brilliant - they channelled everything through the conduits in our wall cavities.

We had Telfy before and their guys didn't even attempt to do that - they ran the cables around the outside of the house and then drilled a hole through my lounge wall 🤨

You can check fibre availability for your area on Avatel's website:

https://www.avatel.es/en/particulares/fiber/

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Ally,

We live here permanently, so we have a fixed contract for Fibre (300 mbps), TV (50 channels, the majority Spanish and American, but also UK terrestrial channels), Landline (including free calls to the UK) and 1 x Mobile.  After an initial introductory offer of Eu 24 per month for 3 months, we now pay the standard charge of Eu 40 per month.

So I can't compare whether yours is a good deal for an "on/off" service, but overall it sounds good to me - just double-check which UK channels are included in the 80 on offer.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Kim,

Thank you

I am looking at permanent contract with Avatel which is their 600mbps and the 80tv channels [€29.99 pm} (€1.99 first 3 months) do not require land line or mobile as not out permanent at the moment.

Flexa offering 300mbps 50 tv channels(€24.99) but apparently not getting good reviews again probably both get good and bad reviews

Hi Ally,

So long as you're contracting with one of the major, reliable companies in the market - Avatel, Mas Movil, Moviestar, Telfy, Vega Fibra, etc. - it should be fine.  There are a lot of "here today, gone tomorrow" companies offering internet services, but other members will warn you of bad experiences.

We switched from Telfy to TV Horadada, because TVH installed fibre in our locality first; shortly afterwards, there was a dispute between the owners which caused some supply issues, but then TVH sold the business to Avatel and their service now is easily on a par with Telfy.

Despite the market in Spain not having developed in such a cohesive manner as the UK, Spain does have a wider coverage of full fibre broadband rolled out and faster average download speeds than the UK.  But do take those stated download broadband speeds (mbps) with a pinch of salt.  Even with a contracted mbps of 300, I've never achieved more than 50 on test in Spain, but that's more than adequate for what I want to do.  (As a friend of mine, the CEO of a computer company, told me, you could run a small business on a reliable 100 mbps!)  If you really do need 600 mbps, ask your provider whether the advertised speed for the package you're buying is the "velocidad real" (real speed).

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Kim,

Yes I realise I would never get speed advertised but like you I do not require 600mbps.

I think I will also go with Avatel as also very wary of fly by night companies.

Thank you for advise

Ally
