Hi all,

we arrived here on Monday on a one way ticket from Newcastle,  We collect our keys to our new villa on Friday and are exited to be starting our new life … if there are any nice people out who would like to get in touch for friendship and company and possibly give a bit guidance that would be fantastic.

Hasta luego x

Hi, did you come over on a work visa or NLV? I see from earlier posts you are hoping to set up a business in Villamartin and wondering how difficult it is getting a working, or self employed visa.

A couple of websites that may be of help are:

Citizens Advice Bureau Spain for bureaucratic stuff, and

N332 for anything to do with driving in Spain.   This site is run in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil for English speaking people and has an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code on it.   Their Facebook page has also kept us in touch with the rules and regulations in respect of COVID since March 2020.

If you have an NLV then working or earning an income of any type is absolutely not allowed.

You need to recheck your NLV facts.

There is no digital nomad visa available yet to allow remote working.

Oh dear - have you misunderstood your visa terms?  I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to work at all, not even remotely, on an NLV.  That's what 'non-lucrative' means = non earning.  You might like to check that ...

Hmmm conflicting advice …..

Hi I am don't want to disagree with anyone so that is why I am writing privately.

I checked with my solicitor, who then added it to the emails they send out.

If you are working on the Internet for a company in England (not Spanish) you do not need a working visa.  The reason being you are not taking a job away from a Spanish residents.

You will of course have to submit a tax return on the money you earn to the Spanish system even though your earnings are in England.  Their tax year starts January and you will be liable for tax after six months.

Not sure on the fine details.  Especially where English tax ends.

Hope this gives you good for thought.

In regard to Tax:

A double taxation arrangement (DTA) is a deal between two countries. It is not a European piece of legislation. Also after Brexit, the double taxation arrangement between Spain and the United Kingdom will remain in effect.

I would check with HMRC as to where you stand living abroad but still working for a UK company albeit remotely.

Have you got your residencia. If not you have to do that from the UK you cannot apply from Spain.

I think you might need professional advice.
