Following on from Graham's post, never use the abogado (solicitor) recommended by the estate agent to avoid a conflict of interest. Find a gestor to do things such as NIE, opening a bank account, changing to Spanish driving licence and arranging for facilities to be transferred as they will be cheaper than using the abogado. You can also run any concerns by them over the buying process.
If you are from the UK, keep up to date with Brexit arrangements as without individual agreements between UK and Spain the financial requirements to obtain residency post 1st Jan 2021 will be much higher, roughly €700 income per month up to €2,400. If you cannot become resident you will be restricted to 90 days in 180 to stay here.
Another current thread concerns Capital Gains Tax, whether exempt or not, especially after Brexit, so moving to Spain after 1st July in any year to avoid falling under the Spanish tax system in that year seems to be safest. The Spanish tax year runs from 1st Jan and if you spend more than 183 days here you will be subject to Spanish tax rules.
You will need a good heating system as Spanish properties are not usually insulated in any way and feel very cold in winter once the sun goes down. Search this site for "Heating" under "Everywhere" to realise just how big a problem this can be, as can noise.
If you will have a car then designated or off road parking will be essential during the hotter months.
Research Complementary tax to make sure you don't get caught out after a few years.
Most importantly, at the bottom of the rhs of this page you will find Jim's Guide to Spain which includes a guide to search this site for existing information.
