Hi,  was wondering if this rule also applies to private community road.

I believe it's the waste of water that is the problem, not the road it is discharged onto. A bit like the hosepipe ban in UK which is usually at certain times of the year. However in Spain it's anytime of the year.

Jan, I have seen articles stating it is illegal to wash a vehicle on a roadway and therefore I would not recommend doing so , but as far as I am aware and unless official notification to the contrary can be produced here, then, it has to be assumed it is ok to wash a car on your driveway. Happy to be pointed in the direction of were it says otherwise .

As I said, it still has to be assumed it is ok to wash your vehicle on your driveway , unless evidence is provided to the contrary.

Ray is correct, except that it's both articles 2 and 4.2 of the driving regulations that are applicable.

Many town halls also have their own ordinances including the topic; for example, for Orihuela it is:

http://www.orihuela.es/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/trafico.pdf

The legislation doesn't specifically refer to washing or repairing a car on the street. Instead, the scope is wider and refers to the possible deposit of contaminants or otherwise affecting the safety of the road. Even clean water on a street that has been dry for some time can make the surface extremely slippery, as any cyclist will know.

In some ways it's analogous to running out of petrol. That's not specifically mentioned in the legislation, but it's covered by the description of driving without due care and attention.

Jim, if an English translation of all the legislation you have searched for ,found and refer to is available , it could be scrutinised and in turn ,may be the answer to the specific question the original poster put forward.

The English translation of the driving regulations is in:

https://www.costablancaforum.com/area/almorad%C3%AD-spain-11/driving-hire-buying-owning-car-licences-documents-itv-testing-in-almorad%C3%AD-14/jims-tip-spanish-traffic-law-book-in-english-50539/

For the Orihuela ordinance, anyone can do a Google or Deepl translate.

And anyway, we've already given the answer to the OP.

Thanks for that information Jim, i will study it.You say the O.P has been given the answer but unless the official legislation is interpreted adequately then the other  answers to the O.P are merely opinions, not fact.. Thanks for searching and pointing in the helpful direction.

As Jim says the OP has been given the answer to his question in the first two or three replies he had.

Hose pipe, power washer or bucket and sponge it is illegal to wash your car or do repairs to it on the street.

The n332 website has all the info on this subject and many other useful driving related subjects for anyone that wants to take a look.

I've done a bit of Googling on the topic, and it's apparent that even some Spanish vehicle owners don't know the rules.

I've therefore suggested to the N332 website that they include the topic in the next update of the traffic law book. That way, we'll get input from Francisco, the Guardia Civil officer.
