Travelling from Santander - UK

We are hoping to travel on the ferry from Santander to Plymouth next spring.
Any information or tips regarding the journey would be great.
We intend to stop overnight on the route to Santander so recommendations on where to stop over and hotels would be great.
Also how long the drive will take, best places to refuel and cost of tolls.
