Both my wife and me are residents in Spain and on the Spanish health system. We are planning to go to the UK for around 6 weeks and as we only get one months medication from our local pharmacy at a time, it will obviously run out before we return.  Our Doctor says they are not now allowed to issue more than one month's worth at a time by a Government order. She says, ask the pharmacy nicely and they may issue 2 months, but they have refused.

My question is, what are we supposed to do. ??

Hello

Check with your pharmacy ( + any other ) whether you can buy these items, therefore not needing a prescription. I know things have changed considerably but a few years ago I was able to do this for a heart condition - one months supply-  so it might depend on the meds------- failing that can you buy similar items in the UK?

Cheers

Try a different pharmacy, preferably one in area heavily populated with Brits.

Many meds can be bought over the counter on demand, if you have a prescription for them, or even just an empty box, then so much the better.

What about getting a Spanish GHIC?

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-44850972

This is about getting a UK one but  everything is reciprocal.

Unless someone can say for certain, I guess this would mean signing on as a temporary patient asap when you get to the UK. I would take a copy of my current Spanish prescription list and then, if treated the same as a UK resident, you would pay the standard prescription charge.

It would be great if someone could confirm if this is correct.
