Does anybody have any past experience of making insurance claims following damage to your property? Following the recent floods our property was water damaged and now requires extensive work. We have contacted our insurance company and already been visited by an assessor. It appears that we will have the choice of getting the work done by our own builder or allowing the insurance company to use their own builders to carry out the work. We would prefer to use our regular builder who has in the past carried out a lot of work for us and who we trust to do a good job. I am however worried that should we instruct our builder to carry out the work the payment from the insurance company will not cover his costs in full and we will be left with a shortfall. The insurance company have not asked for any quotes for the work so not sure how they will determine how much to pay out.
