Hi there, we just spent a week in Villamartin on holiday, returning to the UK on 27th September. Will hopefully be moving there to live in the next few months as soon as covid-19 restrictions ease.

Looking for general information to help us get established. Will need a cheap car, just an A to B get around. Recommendations for a car sales person? My wife will be looking for a job, possibly in the estate agent industry. An ex Avon area sales manager, she can sell ice to an Eskimo. I will be looking for a job later on when I have wrapped up the UK side. I am a mechanic retired, run Mercedes Benz workshops have 30 years hands on experience. Also run pubs, so I know how to pour a Guinness.

Any advise or general information and assistance in helping us to move to Villamartin will be appreciated. We have secured our two bedroom home already.

Kind regards

Graham

Hi Graham

Please bear in mind that at the current time the UK is coming towards the end of transition with no deal in sight.  If you can move and get your application for TIE in before the end of the year then you would qualify to live in Spain under the current EU/SM rules.  Right now, it looks like UK nationals will be falling under the much more difficult 'third country' qualification rules for moving to Spain from January.

Of course, there is a small chance that transition could be extended or some form of Single Market rules can be agreed, but that would take a massive climbdown/u-turn by the British Government.

Covid is negatively affecting many, many businesses, the jobs market is not in good shape right now, so you may find it hard to secure work - keep your options as open as possible on what you are prepared to do and be prepared to support yourselves fully for some time.  Wages in Spain are lower than in the UK as well.

I don't want to sound negative, but if you do not make the move quickly you may find you are not in a position to do so next year.

Good luck with your preparations.
