Hi neileasty69

As this has been discussed over the last few days, very comprehensively, it would be really helpful if you could provide a link to their t&c’s. 🤪🥂

I’ve just had a quick look, appears there are some major restrictions

“Does battleface cover for COVID-19?
Yes, our benefits include cover for medical expenses caused by or resulting from COVID-19. Claims will be paid for medical expenses up to the amount shown in your schedule of benefits and subject to the terms and conditions of your policy. The COVID-19 cover is available with this product for policies purchased from July 17th, 2020 for travellers up to and including age 59 or under. All other benefits remain available as standard for travellers aged one month or over on the date of travel and 79 years or under when the trip, for which this insurance is purchased, finishes.

We do not include cover in relation to COVID-19 expenses for trip cancellations, curtailment of a holiday or lockdowns.

Trips to areas where the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has advised against travel?Yes, this product provides full benefits, up to the policy limits, for all destinations including countries under FCO and government essential and non-essential travel advisories.

Do I need to declare my pre-existing conditions?battleface will not cover any claim arising directly or indirectly from a known pre-existing medical condition. You don't need to disclose your pre-existing conditions to us when you buy a policy but we may ask for relevant details of your medical history in the event of a claim.

What do you consider to be a pre-existing medical condition?Any medical condition that, within the last 12 months, required any: surgery, inpatient or outpatient treatment, referrals or investigations of any sort. This includes being on any waiting list, taking any prescription medication, tablets or required medical treatment (This will not apply to common colds, flu or contraceptive medication); medical advice or treatment for any respiratory condition relating to the lungs or breathing; medical advice or treatment for any heart, stroke or diabetic

🤪🥂

Even without COVID the loss of the EHIC and standard exclusions such as the above in travel insurance policies will, from Jan 1st. next year, effectively preclude almost anyone with a preexisting medical condition from travelling not only to Spain but also practically anywhere in the world without risking potentially crippling medical expenses or even possible bankruptcy!

Why only up to the age of 59? I really lose my rag with companies making blanket restrictions like this. I'm 62 and fitter and more healthy than many 40 odd & 50 odd year olds! What a stupid policy!

Yeah its cos the effects of covid are much higher the older we get. Im still investigating the policy before i take it out. Im under 59 but im still unsure it offers the necessary cover. I will post my findings 😎

Ok ! So i’ve done some homework and phoned the battleface insurance 24 hour phone numbers. Had a really good response from knowledgeable staff, who apparently live all over europe, not just in the uk. I deliberately phoned three separate times and spoke to three different people to check all their answers to my questions corresponded. And they did. I read the terms and policy schedule and double checked them with the phone calls. They are a specialist insurer who usually insure for travel to ‘abnormal’ destinations and dangerous countries, so they see this covid thing as an add on to their usual business, hence the fact that they DO INSURE YOU FOR TRAVEL TO SPAIN AND INSURE YOU IF YOU CONTRACT COVID WHILST THERE !!! I checked the hospitalisation and medical expenses limits and it is up to £5million and includes flying you home if necessary. If you end up in hospital with c19 you are also covered (These are the main areas of concern for most people). They dont cover for flight cancellations or lockdowns which i expected anyway. But if you go to Spain and get locked down whilst there, you can at least go on line and extend your health insurance whilst there, and all the usual theft/loss of goods cover. They definitely do insurance even when the FCO advise against travel. So if you know someone who wants to go to Spain, this company have a web site and they were really good at answering the phones too!! By the way me and my wife were quoted £120 for two weeks cover. Its a lot but you would expect that under the circumstances, and we are 56 yrs old. My daughter and her fella were quoted half that, obviously because they’re younger. (They don’t cover people older than 59 by the way). Anyway hope you find this useful, maybe try them yourselves...We’re going for it and fingers crossed, we might get to see the Spanish sunshine after all 😎👍 !!!

Thanks for all that info - I'm gutted they don't cover over 59 as I'm going to Spain next week and would definitely have taken out the insurance - even at that price, its definitely worth it. My husband can benefit from it though as he's under 59. Just wish I could find someone who would insure me!

Ali.

Recently I have had a couple of chats with Nationwide BS.

If you open a Flexplus account it includes breakdown, mobile phones and worldwide travel insurance at app £13pm.

Even if you travel against the FCO advice they will provide medical cover including emergency treatment for Covid19 but nothing else Covid related.

The cover also includes your spouse or partner, unfortunately for me this would not include my partner as, although she lives with me she has her own property too and that is officially deemed to be where she resides.

The age limit is up to 70.

To satisfy yourself I would make a couple of calls and hopefully speak to different agents.

They can run you through a medical screening for pre existing conditions, these can be covered ( or not ) at an extra cost. 0800 302011.

There was another thread which discussed the Nationwide account a few days ago, one of our respected members Pete Knight mentioned this and I have followed it up.
