Hi, Orkney islands have been threatening to become independent for several years, however they are becoming more vocal about this due to our mickey mouse SNP governments failures and lunatic policies.

Every now and again the media print a story, sorry, was not getting at you.

The BBC ran a story today about Orkney council looking at proposals to become a territory of Norway, https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-66066448

At the bottom of the page is a link to a similar story dated 2017.

Possibly the Orkney council trying to stake a claim for a share of the money that is mentioned as being made available recently? Or maybe they read about the recent massive phosphate find in Norway and realised that the Norwegians will become even more wealthy!

Aitch.

aitchc1401. Let me ask a simple question. If Scotland, as a nation cannot be allowed a referendum to accede from the UK, what chance do you think Orkney will have in doing the same, not only from Scotland, but also the UK. If the uk government agreed to the demands of their Island council what do you think would be the repercussions for Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Simple thinking would demand that all councils (not governments) could demand the same rights. Could London, Liverpool, Manchester, Bristol et.al leave the UK?

I was not making any comment on the validity of the request, just posting the facts behind the OP's message.

Personally I think it is a bit of posturing to elicit more money from government, and why not!

As a Scot i am happy Scotland are not allowed another referendum, we had one not so long ago, if it were upto the lunatic SNP supporters we would have a referendum  every year until they get the result they want.

Also i and many other Scots believe our future lies with keeping the status quo, our mickey mouse Scottis government have caused enough damage with the powers they have been given.

And before the nationalists jump on me yes i am Scottish and yes i am proud to be Scottish.
