I have just recently returned home from a week's holiday in Albir. I stayed
in the Albir Playa Hotel and Spar.

On my last day 17th October, I went for a walk down the side of the river
bed that goes toward the sea. Just after a pharmacy I stopped for a rest and
sat on a bench. A few moments later a girl walked up the road, stopped and
started looking through some wire netting that looked into what I think was
a car park.
She turned round and said something but I told her I didn't understand. She
then sat on the bench next to me and said she wanted to have sex. I said no
and got up to walk away. The girl then grabbed my arm, and ripped my watch
from it.  She then run away turning into the first street on the left. I'm
71-Year-old and have lung problems, so I couldn't run after her. The girl I
would say was between 20 and 30 year old but it all happened so fast I
didn't take much notice of her.

The watch was a valuable gold antique Omega worth around £6,000,00 pounds.

This is a family heirloom and a reward is offered for recovery of the watch.

Sorry to hear of your experience but unfortunately similar encounters are common, or dare I say daily occurences, along the Costas.

Offering a reward I'm afraid is unlikely to get your watch back, your only slim hope is to register the loss with www.thewatchregister.com which all reputable watch dealers, jewellers, pawn brokers etc. worldwide have access to and will consult before buying expensive watches. You do I hope have a note of its serial number?

Sadly the only guaranteed sure defence against such robberies is to avoid wearing or displaying valuable items in public because make no mistake, this was no random or spontaneous act, you were targeted specifically for your watch and will have been stalked by this girl, almost certainly Eastern European and very probably Romanian, whilst looking for an opportunity to relieve you of it.

Small consolation but it it was insured and you reported the theft to the police in Spain you should at least receive financial compensation.

Thanks for the reply. Ironic really during the 90s just after the revolution in Romania I went over with charitable goods and medicines to help and save the kids in orphanages. Now those kids have grow up and have come to Europe to steel from us. (Gratitude hay)

I was warned about wearing jewellery and expensive watches before we came to live in Spain. It's a shame that you can't wear nice things any more when going out for the daytime/evenings.

You were quite right Steve. Offering a reward did nothing. I haven't even had a reply from the police, they haven't even sent an acknowledgement of receiving my email. Its a shame because I quite liked Albir but unfortunately I doubt I will ever return to Spain.
