Hi. I have e mailed SNP and asked the question. The car is not due its MOT yet but we have two vehicles in the UK and it seemed a possible option now that we have driven one of them here to leave it in Spain and register it rather than hiring a car for the two months each time we are here if we take the car home. Thanks for your help.

i am looking ( early stages) at moving out from uk to alicante area. I have several motorbikes, maybe I'd like 3 or 4 to be road legal in spain and I have an MGBGT which I'd want to export with me. So my car and one of the bikes is over 50 and hence tax / mot exempt in uk, is there any similar deal in spain? I see nearly no classic cars or bikes when I am across on holiday.

Historic vehicles do have some exemptions, although these may be tied to the distance they cover in a year. I can't remember the specifics, but have a look at the Spanish Number Plates website - there's a lot of information on there. If any of the bikes have been modified from original spec, then you could have problems.

Hi guys. I've heard back from SNP. It is possible to register my car here if I'm not resident myself, subject to the usual car documentation, ID, and proof of address. Thanks for your input with this topic.

It’s not a problem, we’re not resident and had our car reregistered, Graham of SNP did ours, he took care of the whole process from start to finish, can highly recommend him.

As for driving in the uk, some insurance companies cover you to use your car in the uk, eg were with Linera Direct and they provide that cover.

Hi Tricia, go to the home page and click on the blue tab for a new post and go through the process. This way it will be your own topic where more people are likely to see your question rather than it being part way through another thread.
Pete is correct, it's hard enough going through all the bureaucracy involved if you are living here let alone from the UK. It might be going for a good price but there are reasons for this, as Pete says, you can't drive it in the UK!
Go to the top of the page and click on Jim's Guides and scroll down until you get to his guides on buying a second hand car. I think you may decide it's a bad idea just from the introduction. Second hand cars are much more expensive in Spain but then they will continue to hold their value and if you buy from a reputable dealer they will do everything for you.

Yes you can. We kept a car here when we had our holiday home prior to settling here permanently which we had driven over from the UK. If a UK registered vehicle is in Spain for 6 months or more it has to be transferred to Spanish plates. The registration of your vehicle has nothing to do with your residential status.

The replies on the thread are saying if you own a Spanish reg vehicle you cannot drive that vehicle in the UK,

I don't believe that to be correct what happens if you drive back to the UK in your Spanish registered vehicle on holiday, I was doing this for over 10 years, unless there is a change in the rules that I don’t know about.

Or to clarify what has been said you cannot drive and keep a Spanish registered vehicle in the Uk whilst being resident in the UK and that car would be permanent there.
