now back in uk after many happy years in spain I feel fed up with expats moaning about the effect of brixit and how badly they are being treated.all had ample time to register as residence before brexit but chose to ignore it until the last minute when many had been there many years without contributing to the economy.and using the NHS in emergency .I know in will get blasted for this but I keep seeing the media showing this poor profile.

Hi Pacoboy

I agree with much of what you say. However, it’s of no value whatsoever to keep “lobbing a grenade”. We need to move on and “stop moaning”. The deed is done and we have to live with it 🤪🥂

Sad but true and I wonder where are all those voters. Tony was aware of what was coming and abandoned the sinking ship in time.

Hi Pacoboy,

I´m afraid it suits the UK´s gutter press to use stories of Brits "having" to return to the UK as an excuse to criticise the EU and Spain.  Even if they thought to ask these people why they´ve had to return, I can´t see those that were illegal immigrants admitting to it.  My advice?  Stop reading those media outlets - they certainly don´t care about UK citizens who were keen to move to the EU legally and who´ve had their dreams dashed.  As Angebadge has said, the deed is done - was done in 2016 - we have to get to grips with the new rules and live with them.

Kind regards,

Kim

Spain has and is treating brits far better than the UK is treating eu citizens. Spain started last July will sort residency face to face. It takes about 15 mins. The poor eu citizens have been trying for 2/3 years to do what is necessary online only and are having to supply payslips etc going back many years. The home office have created such a hostile environment they have a big backlog and people who are still waiting may lose the right to live work obtain health care many having been in the UK for 20/30 years!! Older people in their 70's and 80's are expected to deal with this online only. A disgrace and I am ashamed to be British. The people who are moaning here don't have a clue and many are asking about coming to live here and what are the requirements 2 years after it was all agreed. People even asking about finding work NOW!!! The eu have not been looking at British cv's for a long time so unless people have a job to come to from their employers forget it. Many Spanish have lost their jobs and businesses cos of the pandemic and any occupation  brits have been here years doing them all. Have these people been living under a bush for 4 years? We left the eu 31st Dec 2020 and now they ask !  Makes my bloody boil and those who are moaning about only being able to stay for 90 days in 180 this info was available beginning of 2019 !!! Hope some of them voted leave and now have to suffer it. Very sad for those who didn't!

Sorry but I don’t agree the U.K. is allowing EU nationals to visit and stay for up to 180 days not 90 , a colleague who’s partner is Romanian came to the U.K. in 2017 she applied for pre settled status using a smartphone it took 5 minutes abs she received in 10 minutes later all she had to do was send a copy of her passport

Nothing else. She did this when it first became available abs had to pay but shortly after it became free and she was refunded.
I know this is true because I was there when she did it

Hi Alan,

Regarding 180 days versus 90 days for EU citizens allowed in the UK, the UK can do what it likes: it isn't, and never was, in the Schengen travel zone.

I don't doubt that your friend's Romanian partner was able to make an application for pre-settled status very easily in 2017, as the UK didn't officially leave the EU until 31 January 2020.  However, what some are experiencing since then is shameful.  So much for the lessons the UK government was supposed to have learned from the Windrush scandal..... 😔

Kind regards,

Kim

Sorry I should have added that she gained her status in 2020

Ama as you say the U.K. can do what it wants to as it’s not in Schengen but other EU counties have agreed longer periods other than the 90 /180 days if I’m

Right Romania being one of them

Romania, while being a member of the EU, is not a member of Schengen.
