Hi

Going by the information we've had on our forums over the years and personal experience. I would always use a well recommended builder where you can see examples of their work. The Spanish building works generally need licensing and it's best to get these arranged yourself at the town hall or at least get the information of what's needed before work starts.

There are builders who will say they will get the license for you but it has been known for some to say they are doing this and then finish the job without even applying, leaving you thinking that the license /building permission is arranged.

A decent builder will do this legal stuff correctly but always do your best to check that the paperwork is in place before they start the job.

There may be some 'builders' who may cheekily contact you privately but please don't rely on them being decent .. There are ways to check them out by Googling them and naming them on here, asking if any other members have used them. Check that they have a company name, registered to work in Spain and fully insured.

Spain is notorious for 'fly by night' workers who say they can do something because they need the work but they may not be properly skilled and building work is not something to cut corners with.

Good luck with your search. You could also ask in the Town Hall for recommended building companies and get a few quotes.
