Like the RAC & the AA in the UK, does Spain have something similar, should your car  break down (here in Spain). For residents, not whilst on holiday. Thanks in advance.

My understanding is that car insurance policies come with recovery as part of it. That was what we were advised when we insured our cars here.

Hi,

Lancelot is correct, your breakdown cover is included with your insurance and not separate like it is in England.

Happy Motoring:)

Policies do come with breakdown cover but it's not equivalent to UK AA RAC. Most policicies include attendance to the breakdown by a GRUA truck. They will assess the repair and repair it if they can. However if they CAN'T, most policies will only allow for your car to be towed to a local garage. That's it. So if you're 200km from home you're on your own. A lot of brokers realise this isn't enough so they add in replacement car to the policy. It's worth checking a replacement car service is included when you take out the policy.

RACE in Spain is the nearest equivalent to AA RAC, (possibly RAC Espana although I've never bothered to research that) and they offer a more comprehensive roadside assistance service which obviously comes at a cost. My 2003 Mercedes costs 157 annually. Here is the link to RACE...

RACE

It all depends how much peace of mind you want and at what price I suppose.

We had a flat tyre outside our house a couple of weeks ago. Called insurance company who sent a man with a truck who advised he couldn’t inflate tyre with the kit supplied ( our car doesn’t have a spare ) He took the car on his truck to a garage in Los Montesinos ( from Algorfa) where we had to have both back tyres replaced even though one was almost new. Apparently this is customary here , we were charged 140 euros for the tyres & weren’t offered the one back that was in good condition, I can only assume they get sold on ?

That's correct both tyres have to be the same.
