I came across an old thread started by tebo53 entitled "politeness and manners" which, interestingly, has been locked otherwise I would have added to it.

I've noticed the lack of common courtesy from some people.

Insults and name calling - the sort of thing that you might expect in a playground.

No please or thank you with a question.

A single punctuation mark used as a reply.

No reply, no acknowledgement at all.

I don't expect someone to be grateful for the rest of their lives just because I've told them where the bus stop is, but a "thanks" or a thumbs up would at least let me know they've seen my answer, understand it and are happy with it. But to just ignore it exposes, I suppose, the root of the word ignorance.

And do you expect that by posting your thoughts you will change the habits of the people you have noticed lacking in common courtesy? I don't really see the point of your post to be honest.

Aitch.

Quite probably not.

As for the point of the post, there are many occasions when we air our thoughts, it's not just a place to ask questions.

Thank you for taking the time to reply though

I was inspired to write my original post (ages ago now) as I was annoyed with some posters and their attitude when, seemingly,  demanding answers as they do with Alexa. Nowadays posters write, I want,  I need etc with no niceties amongst it. I have stopped responding to posts now who demand answers even when I know I could genuinely help. Hey, ho sadly it's the way of the world now 🙄

True enough.

Most on here are old enough to know better, I'd imagine that the only under thirty members are the ones who lost their wallet/phone /passport /grannys ashes while p#ssed in Benidorm at 4 o'clock this morning and you know they won't be back.

That's the easiest question to ask Ray (I Type it every time, no pasting here) because it's invariably first time posters who still think they are "entitled" to live here at will without making simple basic enquiries first.

It's odd that you should bring this up because I was thinking the exact same thought this morning.

A simple reply to acknowledge the fact that you've tried to help someone is all I'm looking for but often it's zero. I don't want brownie points or praise, just a simple thanks for your input.

Like Steve (Tebo) I now often don't offer help and advice when the question is posed in a particular way.

And yes, Steve is RIGHT to ask about Passport status because often posters have asked for detailed advice about something only to later point out "oh but that doesn't apply to me because I'm not a UK passport holder".

I suppose it's the way things have gone, the "me" society we've created, but if parents no longer teach basic manners like please and thankyou the country is in a worse state than ever.
