I live in Benidorm and to rent a 2 bedroom apartment would be around €400 to €450 per calendar month plus electric. A 3 bedroom apartment would be around €500 to €550 plus electric.

Some landlords charge for water and community fees but that is unusual.

Jobs in Benidorm are very hard to get especially if you want to do bar work or cleaning etc. What work are you looking for?

Can you speak Spanish?

You will need to have your NIE number to gain employment.

Do you know the legalities of living in Spain such as healthcare and getting your NIE number. To gain your residents card you will need to prove you have healthcare for each member of the family and an income that the authorities deem to be sufficient so you won't become a burden on the state.

There are no benefits system for child allowances etc here as there is in the UK.

If I can help with any specific questions about living in Spain or Benidorm please ask.

Hi Marti,

Highly unlikely that you will get construction employment as you need to speak Spanish to understand the requirements and health and safety regulations. The construction industry is still on it's knees after the crash and hundreds of local construction workers are on the dole. You might find employment with a local builders. Menial jobs such as bar work or cleaning etc are usually taken by family and friends of the owners. There are hundreds of "odd job" men and "man with van" available at very cheap rates.

Your partner's hair extensions business may be useful at the local hairdresser but I know of two or three along the prom where it can be done.

Self employment is possible here but you have to jump through hoops to obtain a licence from the town hall.

Have you enquired about schools for your children?

I always suggest to anyone who wants to live here is to have a fact finding holiday here and enquire at agents about availability of apartments and prices, drop off a few CV's at likely employers. In the meantime learn Spanish and do plenty of research into the legalities of living in Spain such as healthcare and getting your NIE number, schools etc, etc.

Like i suggested,  you need to come here and see for yourself what the employment situation is.  You won't get job offers over the internet.

You will need to earn enough money to pay your monthly outgoings plus quality leisure time. Menial jobs only pay minimum rates of around €5 per hour. Some desperate people work " on the black" for less.

There is no benefits system here.

Have enough money in the bank to last you a full year to help you get established.

Open a Spanish bank account and keep transferring sums of money on a monthly basis to prove to the authorities you have a regular income.

It's a manic paper chase here in Spain for many reasons including healthcare and getting your NIE number etc.
