There was a news article in UK newspaper two weeks ago saying the same thing, lots of choice so maybe best to steer clear of Gold,

Couldn't agree more, I had the mis-fortune of using them once a few years ago, absolute bandits, avoid at all costs.

I used them 2 weeks ago and have just been charged £175 for a scratch already there. I took a photo in the multi storey car park when I collected the car. 

Unfortunately the car park is very dark and it's very difficult to see even in the day time. Luckily I took photos. The car I collected was covered in scratches. At least I was only charged for one !

I have yearly insurance and I'm hoping that they will pay out. 

If you read reviews on most of the cheep car deals you end up paying with extra costs in most cases customers getting charged for the same damage again and again even though it is already there best advise I can give if you need to use them take plenty of pictures in high resolution so you can zoom in on scratches and dents make sure your pictures have a date and time on them show them every one before you even take the car out of the car park or they will get you these companies dont care and are good at getting every last penny out of you

Donna51, We had a dredful time with Goldcar, but we booked with MasterCard and they took the case on (and won it, they were brilliant), so if you booked via a credit card they may be able to help. Best of luck, I really hope you beat these crooks.

I have used most of car rentals at Alicante Airport many times over the years, I know the pitfalls and the scams attached when hiring something so cheap. However,  had the misfortune of using GoldCar in April. Car was dirty, covered in scratches but generally fine, but staff were hopeless and am still currently haggling over a pertrol refill issue that is yet to be resolved.

Not a huge issue in the grand scheme of things, but they do test your resolve and in the end they are just not worth the hassle.
