I need to change my back account currently with Deutsche bank which banks would you recommend here in spain.
Without doubt Sabadell, been with them for over four years, great service in branch or online, English speaking staff in every branch, English language website, low fees for non residents and no fees for residents making regular deposits each month.

Every bank is required by Law to offer an account with basic services for free (no fees). Don't rely on a bank's name, all depends on the person(s).

Re sabadell we was with them for a couple of years and charges of around 150 euros a year for non residents I don’t feel this is low fee

Janet, I was in same boat, non resident, Sabadell high fee (I agree 150-200€ yr not low amount. After investigating every Spanish bank looking for no limitations, no conditions(as non resident dont consider depositing 700€month into our account when not needed for months as reasonable). I eventually opened an account with Cajamar bank( do hope you have a branch near you ). If handled online its free, no conditions, no limitations, atm free, direct debits free, debit cards free and their website and app all in english. The app wasnt in english when we opened it but now its available. They didnt have any english speakers in my branch but with google translate, very limited spanish we managed it. If you do a transaction in branch there's a 7€ charge that month but not every month. I havent been charged a cent since April.
Google their site, account called "wefferrent" online account but set up in branch and take your usual ID documents and direct debit info and they do it all for you.
Good luck and regards
Pauline.

Thanks Pauline so if we deposit 700 euros a month is it then free as we could actually do this xx
Janet you dont have to make any deposits to get it free. They only charge if you do a face to face transaction inside branch. I recently arrived in Spain in September without my purse!!. OMG, no cards at all incl both hubby and my cajamar debit cards ,@no credit cards to last 3months. Usual last minute rush! Anyway I fortunately had euros in my bag to tide us over so went into bank to order a duplicate debit card for self. Charge was 3€, took 2 wks but no other fee. I want to send money over via transferwise when rate is good and when it suits me not be dictated to by sending regular. Honestly cant recommend enough. Bit daunting with no english at first but theres a dedicated english phone no which as i couldnt get our nie,s to accept via online setup, person told me to go into branch to setup instead. All our paperwork is in english and spanish so easy to understand. Good luck, have you got a branch near you? They tend to be for more rural places.
Pauline.
Hi John56, How much are they paying you. We've been with Sabadell since 2017 as none resident I wouldn't say 35euros quarterly is a cheap bank account. Then into the bargain and all of a sudden because I got a new passport I'm blocked from my online banking. When we were in Torre in Sept visited the bank thought it was resolved then returning to Scotland blocked again. If I could change to another provider tomorrow I would but hear it can take two weeks to set up direct debits ect, as for English speakers not when I've phon Ed on numerous occasions. Exasperated

Sorry to hear your experience is so different from mine, I have even been helped with a member of their staff in the Cabo Roig branch who is originally from Scotland ( maybe harder to understand than a Spanish staff member lol ). Never had any problems with getting to sort matters out quickly when needed.
