Hi all, I have recently bought a holiday home in Orihuela Costa and am in the process of appointing a company to undertake some works including installation of replacement doors.  I am required to make a down payment equivalent to 50% of the total price which is a not an unsubstantial sum.  My issue is that I would like to pay the deposit by credit card (and over the telephone as I am in London) to avail of the insurance protection it provides to consumers.  However, I have been told by my supplier that remote payment with credit cards is illegal in Spain and that I would need to do this in person.  Has anyone had this experience and are the statements being made to me on use of credit cards in Spain correct?  Thanks in advance for any thoughts and views.

I am afraid I don’t know the legalities of the situation you mention but only yesterday I priced up some electrical appliances and asked if I wished to purchase after thinking about it could I telephone order and pay over the phone to save me going back to the shop.  Not a problem. Also, last week our lawyer took a payment out of our bank for something we didn’t ask for!  It certainly happens.  Also with other things such as internet connections etc, you pay over the phone or they won’t supply the goods.  It seems to me that you are being spun a yarn!!

Just to clarify - I am referring specifically to payment I want to make with my credit card and not debit or other bank transfer - is this your experience too?

Either way, appreciate your responding.

I’m tending to agree with you - sounds like yarn spinning.

Thanks again.

To activate my internet and tv in my holiday home I phone and pay by credit card from the UK each time I need it .       I also paid my initial fees to my Spanish lawyers by credit card from the UK.
