I don't think they did announce it. It was the airlines stating a quarantine period was due to be announced. And also the tabloids but I did not pick up from the government that this was in place tet

Be careful about fake news.

I am working as an Airline Captain for a major European airline ( B747), and in management, and as such, am privileged to a bit more info than being distributed to the media.

Yes, there is an effort underway by the EU to open the borders for INTRA SCHENGEN flights by July, but nothing is in writing yet, and extra Schengen ( Including UK) will still be facing various restrictions.

However, either the whole Schengen zone will be opened-up or nothing. NOT country per country on bilateral basis. In reality, Germany does NOT have a much better situation than Belgium or the Netherlands for example. They have a different death count system, creating a false image of being more successful. The media might be fooled by that, but the EU and virologists are aware of that. Once again, there has not been any official news and beware of fake news ( like the “news” that Spain will keep its borders completely closed till october).

Me too, I am hoping for an opening-up of ALC in June, and I think that there is a possibility as Greece, Italy, Turkey are all gearing-up to take as many tourists from Spain as possible if Spain does not welcome International tourism this summer. ( dog-eats-dog is very much the motto in tourism, let that be clear to all). however,

Thanks for this, very interesting, however, I am surprised by your assertion that any opening for flights will be EU wide or nothing. Everybody is doing their own thing over dealing with the virus, reporting the virus, closing airports/not closing airports, different paths and timetables to come out of the virus shutdown, giving government aid to their airlines etc, etc, etc, why would this be any different? I'm not wanting to be controversial but very interested in your opinion.

Simply because opening up on a bilateral basis will void the complete Schengen idea and what it stands for, and as nearly all Schengen countries are relatively in the same position, bilateral opening will only create discrimination feelings. Note that States might still pursue bilateral opening, but the EU is currently trying to get the opening of intra schengen borders done in a colaberated and coordinated manner.

Once again, Germany is NOT better off than the Benelux or Scandinavia. Opening up the borders for only Germans would create a huge can of worms. That I can guarantee.

Thank you for this. It is good to have this information. We are in the middle of buying a property in Spain and it should be finalised in the next few weeks however at the moment we are not allowed in Spain so any future information is useful. Thank you

Turkey will open its borders for International tourists end of May, with International tourist flights starting beginning of June .
