We're meant to be flying to Alicante Monday week.. Hubby's LFT has just gone positive, he's going to do a PCR test on Monday... Just wondering whether anyone can tell me what the latest news is regarding how long you need to have had the virus before you can get on a plane? I thought there was something about a week or so but I can't seem to find the correct test!  Thanks really gutted as I already have health issues so don't really want to add this to my current situation!  thanks for any advice!

On the assumption that you are in the Republic of Ireland (?) their guidance for those who catch covid can be read by going to the link below:

https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/health/covid19/covid19_isolation_and_restricting.html

The guidance says 7 days minimum isolation from the date of a positive test or from when the symptoms started. Should be okay to travel from 10 July at latest. Make sure that hubby keeps away from you, you don't want to catch it next week!

If hubby tested positive today, ( PCR or Antigen) he should self isolate for 7 days (as of now) . Today is day Zero, he needs to self isolate for 7 days which takes him to 9th July. After that he should limit close contact with those outside your household for a further 3 days. That would definitely include sitting beside someone on an aircraft. Which would be 12th July. I don’t want to be negative, just being realistic, but if he has it, most likely so will you. Therefore you may have to start counting days after you test positive, so possibly plan for that. Wishing you both all the best, and I don’t think it’s a matter of When someone can fly, the airline doesn’t know if you have covid or not. It’s now really up to your own sense of responsibility with regard to others and the potential consequences if you pass it on to anyone who is at a high risk of severe illness from covid 19.

According to  Spain Travel Health

  • a person is considered to have recovered from COVID-19, after the disease has passed, provided that more than 11 days have elapsed since the first positive NAAT or RAT was performed, and this recovery shall be valid for 180 days thereafter

copied from half way down the first page which seems to cover it.

There could be more in depth information further if you want to delve further.

Thanks but I'm based in France despite being Irish!  Welsh friend got Covid and she mentioned 10 days in total (last 2 days negative LFT)..so was trying to figure out what the timing would be

Thanks - but in fact he's been extremely careful in our home for at least a week prior to getting it as he'd been in the UK for 3 days so was testing himself for over a week and keeping mask on at home.. So in effect had been living in a separate part of the house to 'protect' me (I've got health issues)... Unfortunately he had a retirement drink thing on Thursday - I went too but I kept my FFP2 mask on so hoping that I avoid it.. really could do without any other health issues right now. Being vulnerable myself I definitely wouldn't want to risk anyone else's health.

Thanks Lynn  I was trying to find the information on the website but couldn't!!  Will send the link to hubby so he can read it himself!!  Unfortunately if we assume he's been infected since yesterday 2/7/2022 - the 11 days would be the 12th.. which is the original date for our flight... He's doing a PCR test tomorrow and we'll see how the LFT goes after that...

Thanks we've been taking lots of supplements for years prior to Covid so ok on that level.  Definitely avoiding crowds and wearing FFP2 when indoors/crowded areas..
