Hi there we have Freesat in our home in France and in our holiday home in Alicante.. Yesterday I noticed that the 'Great tv' channels are gone from our Freesat here in France.. Was just wondering whether the same has happened to those channels in Spain?  Occasionally there used to be some good movies on the channels.

thanks

Nope, they've all gone.

All channels operated by Narrative Entertainment have been removed.

Great Movies, Great Romance, Great Action, Great TV, Pop, Tiny Pop, Pop Max and the two Great Movie channels on Plus 1 have all gone.

They are still on Free to Air satellite on Astra 2F and are also on Sky, just not on the Freesat listings.

Oh thanks RonTT so I guess I won't be watching any of those channels in Spain either!

Thanks Marcliff - so if I just have Freesat I can no longer watch them?  I'm guessing if I have an old Skybox I'll be able to watch them (but not record them as the skybox has no skycard)?

thanks for this information !

Sorry Marcliff I'm not particularly satellite-savvy:  is there someway to access these or would we need another dish?  Just trying to understand what's possible with having a Freesat dish. thanks

I have a Humax freesat box. It has an option to go to non freesat mode which is called STB or Set Top Box. It then tunes all the non Freesat channels in under that. Problem is, there's no electronic programme guide and the channels are in broadcaster standings, eg you get all ITV channels together like 5001 5002 and so on, then BBC under 5100 5101 etc etc. Bit awkward and I write down the channel number to go with the programme.

Alternatively, a non Freesat box will pick up all the channels on the Astra satellite you pick or it will search all available satellites.

Selecting STB from my remote (under Settings) and you can switch back to Freesat mode.

So if you have Humax, go to settings and select STB. It will probably say no channels and ask if you want to search. You only need to do that the first time.

I haven't checked to see if they are still there as I never used to watch them much.

Thanks Marcliff we had a Humax box in Paris but it died a few months ago...So unfortunately we have a newer version of Freesat box.. I think we have Humax box in Spain so when we get back there I can see if I can do this : I do remember seeing this STB on it quite frequently and wasn't sure why!

I'll see whether I can get a non-Freesat box for France - I'll check with the company who set up the new Freesat box it's a 4K recordable 1TB box..

thanks for your help

We have a 1.4 metre Sat dish on side of property directed towards Astra sats... we receive all UK freeview channels via a Humax Freesat box, (Humax also do box's which record upto 2 channels maybe more nowadays).  You can also use the Freesat Humax box in STB mode (set top box) and receive almost all channels available on the sat your pointing at.

IF you have broadband at your property then IPTV is probably the easiest option from the point of view of equipment.

Best of luck whatever you decide to go with.

We have a Humax 1100s in our holiday home and indeed a satellite dish probably the same size as yours.. I'm guessing that using the STB option we should be able to access those channels.

Unfortunately our Humax 'died' in Paris so we have a different Freesat model (not Humax) which doesn't seem to have the STB option.

Thanks we'll keep using the Humax until it stops!
