If you are in Gata de Gorgos, suggest you spend a morning walking up and down the Main Street. Gata is ‘cane’ town and there are many shops specialising in cane, wicker and so on there are furniture shops specialising in cane furniture as well as all the usual basketry.
Most of it at one time would have been made locally, but the older people who used to do it are now passing on, although one or two may still be seen sitting in the doorways weaving. Unfortunately, as with many other things,, a lot of it comes in from the Far East now.
