Spanish driving licence

Please can anyone tell me whether we need recedencia before we can apply for a spanish licence.

Yes. The licence application follows the Residencia/TIE process.
To have a Spanish licence, you need to give up your British licence, which is why the process is linked to Residency.

Hi Kelvin
Thanks for your reply. We have an appt on Jan 8th to get Padron and then residencia. We have been told that we need to get our licence transferred by end of December or we need to take a Spanish driving test. Is this correct?

We did our licence switches last year.
We were "incentivised" by the idea of avoiding new tests.
I think this is true, but I can't say for certain.
