We own a house in Spain but are not residents. We were there from January to towards the end of March. So, we have stayed away for April, May and June, making up the six months.

My question is, if we stay away for July, August and September and come over for October,November and December; would a fresh 6 months start the 1st of January?

If so, could we stay on for January, February and March?

No.

The rules are 90 days in any rolling 180.

You can't stay for 6 months.

Hello DavidS

It might help if you use the schengen calculator to work out your length of stay & return visit.

The rule is that the 180 day period starts on the day you arrive in Spain or any other Shengen country e.g. France if you drive down.  As an example, if you arrived on, say, 1st March you can stay for a total of 90 days between 1st March and 27th August i.e. 180 days.  If you stay for the maximum 90 days you can’t arrive again until your next 180 day period starts on 28th August or if you arrive after 28th August then your rolling 180 period starts then.  Sounds more complicated than it is!
