Hi Susan

It’s a very friendly area and striking up conversations is easy.  However as a lady moving alone, a good starting place could be aqua aerobics at The Emerald Isle. It’s on Monday Wednesday and Friday at 10am and all the ladies are very welcoming and friendly.  Majority stay for a co...

...ffee and chat after the class, and also do a lunch out on the last Thursday of the month.  Once it’s too cold for the pool it will be normal aerobics.  Maggie who runs it also does a walking group on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

Hope to meet you at Aqua if that’d be a thing for you 😊.

Sharon

Apologies Sharon for only now replying. Aqua aerobics is definitely something i would be interested in, it sounds the place to meet people. I'm a young at heart 60 year old and moving on my own to Spain is quite overwhelming and at the same time exciting. Probably my only fear is being lonely so I think the aqua aerobics would be good for me. As soon as my house in Ireland is sold I can get down to looking at my home in the sun. Looking forward to meeting you.

                                             Many thanks

Susan - Your opening paragraph probably sounded familiar to many people - it can be intimidating and my husband and I are looking (on the computer) in that area.  We will be there in two weeks to wander and see where we would feel comfortable also.  Please let us know how you are doing and what the pros and cons were - any advice on adjusting that you might have!  Thank you and good luck in your new home.

Laura and Allan

Thanks so much Laura and Allen. Well I've had a very productive week looking at the la florida area, i have seen some lovely houses in my price range and only about 15 to 20 minute walk to Zenia boulevard, it's a great shopping centre with so many shops ie Primark, C&A, Zara to name but a few so i was in my element. Even walked to Playa-flamenca Beach. So alot of positives. Ideal place if you don't have much Spanish. Ive actually found out that there are art and pottery classes beside the boulevard, which would interest me as i love to paint and draw. Also the Emerald Isle do aqua aerobics which I'm definitely going to do. Of course its nerve-wracking moving to another country, but sometimes it's good to get out of your comfort zone. And i can always go back to Ireland for visits. So I'm sure it's going to be all good once I've settled in. And I've also joined a la florida friends Facebook book page and I've had so many people wishing me the best of luck. So A all the luck in the world to you too.

Hi, here i am in la florida at last. First impressions are very positive. I'm here with my partner staying in a lovely house for a while to get the feel of the place, it's about a 10 minute walk from waldermers( apologies if I've spelt it incorrectly) from what I can see it appears a very nice ar...

...ea. I'm planning to move to Spain permanently on my own from Ireland. Quite a daunting prospect and a huge change for me, needless to say a little scary. But also exciting as i really want to do this so much . But I suppose what's worrying me is that I'm a little concerned about making friends and will i successfully integrate. I suppose it's fear of the unknown. I'd like to join a couple of social clubs and I'm pretty sure I'll feel at home and settled in no time. I know if i don't make the move now I'll always wish i had. And Ireland is only over a couple of hours away if i want to go back for a visit. I'm a bit of an overthinker and a worry wart as you can probably gather. But I also think life is too short not to take the bull by the horns, and I bet once I've moved here after a few months I'll wonder what on earth i had to worry about. Generally I'm quite a positive and an optimistic, though you wouldn't guess that from my post🤔😂

Go for it as you said life is too short so live  the rest off it happy and good luck you will make lots of new friends if your out going
