We are starting the process of getting our Non Lucrative Visas . Can any one recommend a Health Insurance company to provide basic insurance for my wife and I which satisfies the Visa application. We are both retired 67 and 72 year old.

If you are receiving UK retirement pension you will be entitled to get healthcare through the S1 healthcare scheme which is paid for by the UK government. The S1 satisfies the requirements of the NLV.

If you go the S1 route you will need to pre-register your S1 paperwork with the Spanish INSS.

Hello Steve ,

I was wondering where I might get a S1 form as I have just retired in GB.

Many thanks in advance

Hi,

If you have a look here:

https://www.nhs.uk/using-the-nhs/healthcare-abroad/moving-abroad/planning-your-healthcare/

You will read that you can apply for the S1 healthcare forms from the Overseas healthcare team at Newcastle.

They show a phone number to ring and they will complete the form for you over the phone.

How to get an S1 form

You can apply for an S1 form from the Overseas Healthcare Services.

Telephone: +44 (0)191 218 1999

Email: [email protected]

Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm (GMT)

You can apply for an S1 form up to 90 days before moving to live in an EU country. You can ask for the form to be sent to your UK address if you need it for your visa application.

For the S1 form to be issued, you need to have an address in the EU country you are moving to. This can be a temporary address, but you must contact NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) and the relevant authority in the country you are moving to, to let them know your new address (if it changes). This is to prevent important confidential information being sent to the wrong address.

How to use an S1 form

Once issued, register the S1 form with the relevant authority in your country of residence.

Often you need to do this before you can register for healthcare or obtain a medical card.

If you have registered an S1 in an EU country, you'll be able to use your UK-issued EHIC or GHIC to access state-funded necessary medical treatment when you visit other EU countries. You'll not be able to use it in Switzerland.

Steve.

Hi  I am retired and have my sip card but also pay for private medical insurance.  Private do not cover existing conditions but I needed emergency assistance last year including hospitalisation.  If I was treated by the local hospital I would not be here to tell the tale.  The bill must have exceded at least 16K with all tests etc.  The premium has not gone up.  I believe the Spanish also have both private and national.  It is worth researching.

I could tell you a story that would negate that statement completely but I won't go into that.

I can say though, if we were in the UK perhaps neither of us would be alive as the NHS don't like spending to much time and money on people over a certain age..........

Make what you will from my statement......

Why make that statement then? I was only offering help to the op.  I do not understand why some people on here want an argument or debate and make any excuse to start one.  no replies please.  I will not offer assistance again.  I am not surprised at all why Jim left,
