Hello

If you are planning to renew your card before Dec 2022 - you dont have to.

I went this morning & was told the current  cards will remain valid until the new bus system/cards/fares  etc.  begin. ....They THINK it will be sometime in Dec.??

From then only Over 65s will get free travel........  for everyone else, there will  be different  cards of other durations available at a reduced rate & the fare will reduce from €1.50 (now) to ,,,,€1.35.

I asked how we will know if/when this is happening and he said 'just read the news' ha!

The same explanation was being given to anyone who could understand so no point in queueing , just keep using your card for now.

Cheers

I'm confused....do residents get free travel? I'm not a resident but was told to get a bus pass from the council for free travel? I have a home here.

Thanks

Bus passes are for residents only.

Hi

so I am a Resident but not over 65 so can I still apply for the smart card and get free travel or do I have to pay the €1.35 fare each time?

My last Padron was issued over 3 months ago so would I need to get a fresh one if I am eligible to apply for the travel Smartcard?

Hello

You dont have to be a pensionista, just  be legally resident. If you take your documents including your TIE or residencia paper & up to date padron to the Urban Transport office inside the La Plasa  fish, fruit & veg market in central Torrevieja they will advise you.  New scheme has not come into operation yet  ( Im still using the old card) but you might get issued with the current card until it is updated

As a resident you should be on your local town hall's resident list until they request that you be re-set (I think that this is now every 2 years whereas it used to be every 5 years).   However, your actual paper copy of the Empadronamiento (Padron) only lasts for 3 months, so whenever you have to use it the actual piece of paper has to be just 3 months' old or under.
