Hi.  My husband and I are considering buying a property in the Costa Blanca area, and like the look of La Mata and have seen several suitable properties while searching on line.  However, not having been to the area, we'd like to know a bit more about it.  Is La Mata an all-year-round living resort or is it mainly holiday homes?  We eventually hope to retire to Spain and so wouldn't want to live in an area where everyone goes home once the season is over, but would prefer to integrate into a full time community.  Are there many local shops or do you have to travel into Torrevieja and other districts in order to shop?  Is there plenty for a person living there full time to get involved in?  Any information you can provide would be great.  Thanks.

We have now spent a year in La Zenia and love it, as quiet or as busy as you want, the boulevard, the beach, good pubs and restaurants, local to Cabo Roig and Villa Martin

Hi. We were in the same position last year at this time and having arranged to view a number of properties, we went over to Spain at the beginning of February, including La Mata. It’s true there are places to visit nearby, but there didn’t seem to be much happening in La Mata itself. I would definitely go over and visit places out of season to give you a better idea of year round facilities. Also speak to local residents who we found happy to give guidance and useful tips and suggestions. Good luck in your search. I hope you find what you are looking for.

La Mata....without a doubt is a beautiful place. No hills, all properties seem to be within walking distance to the beach. There is a promenade which takes you from La Mata, along the stunning sand dunes into the edge of  a Torrevieja where we have our house. As I see it, La Mata has a lot going for it. Easy access to the airport, an excellent bus service into Torrevieja lots of beachside restaurants, coffee shops and bars, various shops, chemist, post office, police station, health centre and police station...I think there is a Bank too.  If I were to buy again, I would really consider La Mata as it is such a lovely seaside location. Everywhere is quieter off season but there are so many Scandinavian people buying in this area and staying for the winter months so it makes the place a lot busier.

You have to decide what is important to you. Do you enjoy lying on the beach? In La Mata, you can walk with your deckchair and have no need for a car. The Wednesday market is always busy and enjoyable. The Sunday market at The Lemon Grove is not too far from La Mata..people cycle there! La Zenia is lovely but you always have to cross the very busy N332 to drive to the beach. Traffic jams from Torrevieja to La Zenia are daily. Yes, you will have all the big shops and bars there but if peace and tranquillity are on your agenda, La Mata is perfect. I call it the riviera! The properties are still affordable but not for long as we have more and more scadanavian and Russians moving in.

In truth, no matter where you buy, you hopefully will love it. Living in the Spanish climate and finding everyday living so much cheaper than Home is definitely living the dream.

Rent for a while and you will soon know exactly what your needs are. Make sure that your property is perfect for summer and winter living..u.e. A place to eat outside, lie on your loungers, dry your washing in the winter, storage for luggage and sun loungers, a safe place to keep bicycles, heating, car parking in the high season,  there are so many needs that are vital, do your homework.  Enjoy.

HI

We have a place in Lomos del polo 1kl outside of La Mata, very Spanish but if you want to meet Brits you just need to go into La Mata, lots of Brits and scaninavians all year round, fantastic place to be.
