You've plenty of time then.

Essentially you'll probably want one of three options for crossing the channel

1, short crossing via Dover

2, tunnel

3, I would favour Dieppe / Newhaven

Many other crossings are available,  depends what you want. You could continue driving to Holland and get a crossing to Hull.

As you will be in a motorhome you can take your time and ensure enough time for adequate stops for your dog.  There are thousands of options for places to stay overnight.

Consider how your dog will deal with the confinement of the crossing.  It might be only a few hours that he will be locked in your van on his own.

Research the crossings and what they provide.  If I can help further let me know

Download Park4night app.  It will show places you can use to stop overnight and you can filter what you do or do not want, ie aires,  campsites,  only services etc.

Others are available but I find this one best,  also the basic version is and remains free to use.

We do it 3-4 times a year we use the tunnel as you can sit in your van with your dog when going through.

Our many days do you want to travel to the channel.

Ask closer to your travel dates for routes, stopovers and Aires.

What is a “gsd”?

Hi

Firstly do not worry.....It can be a bit frightening first trip...but have done it 2/3 times a year for the past 12 yrs...and really good

First few times stick to main routes ..later you will feel happy to divert

Buy the Aires book for France and Spain and never a problem finding somewhere to stay

Good luck >>>>never know we may see you there as live in La Zenia...and good overnight parking La Zenia Boulevard..

Friends of mine use the ferry to Bilboa (directly to Spain) with their 2 dogs, they find it much better. Travel via the tunnel is much better than a ferry. Delays at the Ferry port to Calais have been awful even for humans. Travelling through France is lovely, the roads are fantastic, the countryside beautiful. If it was me, I'd take my time have a couple of stops at least and include it in your travel plans, it also gives the animals a more relaxed journey. Whatever you do enjoy the trip.

PS. Why are some on here get so wrapped up over the abreviation of GSD from the op is crazy.
