Hello

Just a reminder.......Whatever Boris Johnson says today regarding his Traffic Light system & permissions for international travel,   e.g. to Spain ----  Please check the Spanish Government websites as Spain makes it's own decisions about  who can enter  the country - ...

...and the proof required, not the UK government.

This might avoid,  for some of you,  the confusion that occured  & continues to occur after the UKs last announcement on the subject.

Cheers

Elinspain

What a disappointment, Johnson did what he does well ,mumbled and stuttered his way through his unenlightning briefing ,apart from saying April 12 openings would go ahead ,which I think we all knew anyway ,nothing regarding vaccine passports or restrictions being lifted for foreign travel ,dont normally tune in for these announcements, wont get caught again

It has been said all along that steps out of lockdown in the UK would be taken at 5 week intervals provided various Covid requirements were continuing to be met.  The announcement yesterday was to confirm the lifting of restrictions on April 12th.  It is hardly surprising that no confirmation can yet be made of the lifting of further restrictions in 5 weeks time on 17 May. As we have seen in the last year the Covid situation can and does rapidly change.

I know what was.said regarding the so called road map ,it had been reported in the press and they have reported things before official announcement in the past, that there may be an announcement regarding traffic light system for overseas travel and also something regarding dates for overseas travel and also vaccine passports, all questions on these matters were batted away by Johnson ,I suspect we will have to wait until 10 May before any announcement is made on overseas travel ,not helpful to the travel industry  ,I also suspect if Johnson gives go ahead for foreign travel ,we may then get allowed an entry to Spain from Spanish government

The outcome of a report in to overseas travel is due to be presented/published on 12 April. We should get information then.

Your right, nothing has changed with the UK roadmap dates. What has changed though is the number of infections in some popular European travel destinations have increased and these will have to be considered when deciding which countries can safely be visited. I hope that Spain can be visited from May/June but it depends upon the infection rates both in the UK and Spain. At least those who have been vaccinated will feel safer travelling abroad when the border are open again. I still have my June flight bookings for Alicante.

Totally agree.  Except I don’t have any flights booked yet.

Hi Hew,

I don't know the basis for your suggestion, but this article from today's Telegraph indicates that Spain is likely to be on the 'Green' list:

Hi Kim,

Irrespective of what the telegraph thinks, unfortunately it’s still not looking that way, and unlikely to change. Will be in the amber zone along with most of the rest of Europe until covid rates drop and the vaccination progress improves there.  Personally I will still travel, but will have to quarantine when return to U K. Unfortunately the costs for covid tests Will be equal to the cost of a budget flight , so it’s still going to impact tourism.

I think you will have to wait a while yet to find out what is going to happen ,I cant see airlines being able to fly at the drop of a hat ,I had another booking with Jet 2 for 20 May cancelled the other week ,all along with UK government it's been indecision ,indecision,  there was supposed to be a committee set up to look into the opening up of the aviation industry  ,Johnson had said on 5th April that the findings would be reported this month ,and also Spain is still not allowing  UK citizens  to visit Spain unless you are in a select band of people ,we also have SNP asking UK government  to put all countries on red list that would mean any body returning to UK being fleeced to stay in quarantine hotel ,quite a muddle

Hi Hew,

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, isn't it?  Less than a week after The Telegraph printed that original article, they changed their suggested line-up for the 'Green' list and dropped Spain from it.  Portugal was also on The Telegraph's original Green list, yet it was reported here in Spain yesterday, that the Spanish government has extended the closure of its land border with Portugal.  It shows how fluid the situation still is, although I believe summer breaks in Iceland may still be on the cards👍😉

I think it's a pity for people from the UK with holiday homes, especially on the Costa Blanca, where Comunidad Valenciana currently has the lowest Covid infection rate of the entire east and south coasts of Spain.  That, combined with the UK's advanced vaccination programme, will hopefully give those people early access to their Spanish homes - so long as the UK government can make up its mind about "vaccine passports" 🤔

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Kim,

Agree with you 100%, I still don’t regret having a holiday home there even though We can’t use it, and no intent to try and offload it due to the circumstances, it’s just a matter of time, cheers!
